Teen Acne Treatment with LLLT

Teen Acne Treatment with LLLT

A calmer complexion—without harsh treatments or downtime. (Lighthouse Aesthetics)

At Lighthouse Aesthetics, we believe confidence begins with self-care. Our Teen Acne LLLT treatment uses targeted blue + red light therapy (also called phototherapy) to help reduce breakouts and support clearer-looking skin over time—especially for teens with mild to moderate acne. What is LLLT for acne?

LLLT (low-level light therapy) uses specific wavelengths of light to support acne improvement. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that lasers and light therapies can reduce acne, but results can be less predictable and these treatments are usually best as part of a broader acne plan. (American Academy of Dermatology)

How blue + red light can help teen acne

Blue light (around 415 nm): targets acne-related bacteria and may help calm inflammatory activity. (MDelite)

Red light (around 630 nm):
supports anti-inflammatory benefits and skin recovery. (MDelite)
Clinical studies of combined blue + red LED therapy have shown it can be an effective, well-tolerated option for mild-to-moderate acne. (J Am Acad Dermatol)

Our device: MDElite InfinityPro

We use the MDElite InfinityPro and tailor your teen’s sessions using acne-focused wavelengths, including Pink Light (630 + 415 nm), which the manufacturer describes as combining red and blue wavelengths to target acne-related bacteria and help reduce inflammation/redness. (MDelite)
(Your plan may include other wavelengths when appropriate, based on skin needs.) (MDelite)

What this treatment is best for

LLLT is a great fit for teens who want a gentle option to help improve:

  • Active inflammatory breakouts (pimples)

  • Redness and irritation around blemishes

  • Oily/congested-looking skin (in many cases) (MDelite)

Not ideal for:
severe cystic/nodular acne as a stand-alone treatment—light therapy can help, but it often needs to be combined with other medical acne therapies for best results. (American Academy of Dermatology)

What to expect at the appointment

1) Quick consult + skin assessment
We review goals, acne patterns, skincare habits, and any medications/topicals. (American Academy of Dermatology)

2) Comfortable light session

Your teen relaxes while the device delivers a controlled light treatment. Protective eyewear is used. (American Academy of Dermatology)

3) Home-care guidance

Because light therapy rarely clears acne 100% by itself, we’ll often recommend a simple at-home routine to pair with treatment. (American Academy of Dermatology)

Results timeline (what’s realistic)

Most people need a series of treatments—multiple sessions work significantly better than one. (American Academy of Dermatology)

Results take time: studies commonly show best improvements weeks after the last session. (American Academy of Dermatology)

Maintenance may be helpful for some patients. (American Academy of Dermatology)

Safety and who should postpone

LLLT/blue light therapy is safe for most people, but it may not be recommended for those with photosensitivity disorders or certain light-sensitizing conditions/medications—tell us about all health history and products. (Cleveland Clinic)

Possible side effects can include temporary redness/dryness; some light treatments may cause brief stinging. (American Academy of Dermatology)
